There is at least a great gift in each one of us; the inborn abilities called talent and potential. these are not in us by accident but with a purpose in mind, and the tools; these potentials are to achieve this great purpose why he created us.

In the previous post, we discussed the 7 skills you can develop and master in the Drama ministry and the Filmmaking industry. But now, our focus is to awaken the great deposit of Almighty; the untapped potential, in us.

First and foremost, understanding that God has equipped you with extraordinary abilities is the foundation of your journey. It is essential to reflect upon the belief that the Lord has specially endowed you with the gift of drama and the ability to communicate His message through this art form. By recognizing and acknowledging this truth, you can start your path to unveiling your potential as a gospel drama minister.

God, in His mercy, created us with the deposit of greatness called “Potential.” The major reason for this potential is to help in achieving the purpose of God in our lives.

What is A Potential

According to the Dictionary, a Potential is an ability that is Currently unrealized or untapped. Dr. Myles Munroe defines Potential as the dormant ability, reserved power, untapped strength, unused success, hidden talents, and capped capability.

Each one of us is given unique talents, gifts, and abilities which with them are the potential to do amazing things in life. The problem is that we don’t recognize them mostly.

How to Awake your Potential and make them Active

1. Rise to the challenges in the ministry.

Some challenges that come up in your ministry are meant to push you into doing or learning new things. During my days in the higher institution; as a new member of the Drama ministry of my fellowship, we were preparing for Drama night, and our Drama coordinator came up with the challenge that he would not be the one to write a drama script for the Drama night. Therefore, everyone must go to God for a script. As naive as I was then, I took up the challenge to seek God in fasting and prayer.

Afterward, I came up with something that I didn’t see as meaningful. On Drama meeting day, I was surprised when the coordinator picked my script, the one I was not boasting of, and he turned it out to be a super message. That little challenge changed my orientation and launched me into trusting God for anything called inspiration.

Can you rise to trust God to receive a script for your next drama ministration? Can you take up the challenge of using your phone to design graphics, e.g., flyers, banners, and more for your next Drama ministration? What about trying to use your smartphone to record video and edit a drama presentation? The little success from rising to challenges will gladden your heart to do more. Remember, ability is of no use when there is no opportunity, and no one knows what they can do better until they try it.

2. Meditate and reflect on the Bible stories.

Another way to put this potential to work is by meditating and reflecting on the Bible stories. Some of us do not know that these Bible stories are full-length dramas and movie scripts. Through this simple but powerful secret, a lot of great Gospel scriptwriters have emerged, and many are still coming.

3. Keep company with people of vision.

The book of Heb. 6:12b says, “…but be followers of them who, through faith and patience, inherit the promises.” There is great silent power in keeping company with people of great vision. You tend to become who you keep company with. Understand this fact of influence in life: “Either positively or negatively, whoever you enjoy keeping company with will influence your life.” Remember, Proverbs 13:20 says, “He that walks with wise men shall be wise, but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.”

4. Watch Film with Desire to Learn

Don’t just watch movies but watch with an open mind to learn. Question and challenge yourself on which aspect of filmmaking to master.

When watching movies, especially in the context of drama ministry and filmmaking, it’s important to do so with a critical and learning mindset. Instead of merely being a passive viewer, engage with the content actively:

•    1. Analyze Storytelling: Pay attention to the structure of the story, character development, and the plot. Ask questions like, “How did the filmmaker create emotional impact?” or “What storytelling techniques were used to convey the message?”

•    2. Study Cinematography: Observe the camera angles, lighting, and composition of shots. Learn how these elements contribute to the visual storytelling and mood of the film.

•    3. Sound and Music: Consider how sound effects and music enhance the narrative. Reflect on how you can use sound to create a more immersive experience in your projects.

•    4. Editing and Pacing: Analyze the pacing of the film and how editing affects the flow of the story. Understand the role of editing in building tension or conveying information effectively.

•    5. Character and Dialogue: Study how characters are portrayed and how dialogue is used to advance the plot and reveal character traits.

•    6. Genre and Style: Different genres have distinct conventions and styles. Try to identify what makes a film fit into a particular genre and consider how you can adapt these elements for your projects.

By approaching movies in this way, you’ll gain valuable insights into the art of filmmaking. It’s a form of self-education that can be highly beneficial as you work to develop your skills in drama ministry and filmmaking

5. Have An undying spirit to Learn

Have an undying desire to learn more about that specific area you chose. Once you’ve identified an area within drama ministry or filmmaking that particularly interests you, whether it’s scriptwriting, directing, acting, cinematography, or any other aspect, it’s crucial to foster an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and improvement:

•    1. Take Courses: Consider enrolling in courses or workshops related to your chosen field. There are often many online courses and local classes available that can provide structured learning experiences.

•    2. Read Books: Invest in books, articles, and resources that focus on the specific aspect you’re passionate about. Books on screenwriting, cinematography, or directing can provide valuable insights.
